Nuisance Mobile Calls on the Rise

shutterstock_194036624Nuisance mobile phone calls are on the increase in Australia, according to an article by ABCNews.

ABC Radio recently spoke to Emma Rossi, media manager of the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA), and she said many people were not aware that if they were receiving nuisance calls they could list their number on the Do Not Call register.

There are currently around nine and a half million numbers on the register, which is managed by ACMA and anyone can register for free, apart from large businesses.

Once your number is listed, telemarketers mostly cannot call you, although you may still receive calls from charities, those conducting surveys, and religious and political groups.

As well as registering your mobile number on the Do Not Call register, Ms Rossi said the most important thing people need to bear in mind is to never give out personal or banking details to anyone over the phone unless you know and trust them.
